Oodles of Poodles, Doodles and other Double Coated Breeds
The Tails team loves these heavily coated breeds and mixes. It's extremely satisfying to see the finished product after all our hard work. However, we need the pet owning public's support and trust when it comes to us working on these pets. Some quick facts: A 50lb Doodle takes 3 hours from start to finish if they are in "perfect" shape (groomed 4-6 weeks ago, brushing maintained at home, no matting etc.) The "average" heavily coated pet entering our salon hasn't been professionally groomed in over 3 months. This same 50lb Doodle now takes 4-6+ hours to complete (if not getting a complete shave down). There is almost always matting and impacted coat that needs to be shaved off or manually de-matted. We will de-matt areas of your pet (if they are tolerating it) if you choose. De-matting is extremely time consuming, physically laborious on our groomers and hard on your pet. Therefore, we charge accordingly. It may take more than 1 appointment session depending on how extensive the area to de-matt is. We will always give you our professional opinion, discuss available options and cost. To keep future costs down and your pet at it's happiest, we recommend services every 4-6 weeks. This may be a full hair cut or just a bath, blow out, brushing and nail trim depending on your individual pet's needs. Coming in on schedule will earn a 20% discount off those next invoices.
Fear, Anxiety, and Stress Free Grooming Services
At Tails we take your pet's emotions into consideration when making them feel their best. Our shop has Adaptil and Feliway diffusers and sprays, mimicking natural calming pheromones for both dogs and cats. We have Fear Free Certified staff that understand your pet's behavior and body language to recognize increased fear, anxiety, stress and are well versed in calming techniques to implement. They have received special hands on training in low stress handling of both dogs and cats with a variety of temperaments. Our dog and cat grooming areas are completely separate. Cats are handled as minimally as possible and are housed, bathed and groomed all in their own separate room. Great care has been taken to reduce noise from the dog drying/bathing/housing area to all others areas of our shop. Ask our certified groomers how they can best care for your pet.
